Technical Requirements for GSC Courses

 

GSC prohibits the use of any electronic resource that is in any way unlawful, harmful, or interferes with the use of the College’s network or systems or any network or system integrated with the College’s resources. Usage must not interfere with the use of services for others, infringe on any intellectual property rights, issue any threatening or offensive material, or engage in spam/email abuse, any security risk, or violation of privacy. Failure to adhere to any of the rules, policies, and agreements for subscription services, search engines, communication methods, bulletin boards, web pages, mobile applications, or other services accessed using College resources is also considered a violation of this policy. GSC users shall not use College IT resources for personal financial gain, commercial, political, and/or illegal purposes. GSC faculty and staff who operate using the College’s learning management system are responsible for disclosing the current technology specifications to students, discussing appropriate use of College electronic resources, and effective and appropriate use of social media according to the College’s purpose.

 

Requirements for GSC Courses

It is the recommendation of the College that all students have access to a personal computer and internet outside of classroom hours. A laptop which can be used both off and on campus is preferred. Currently, neither Chromebooks nor iPads are recommended and are not supported by the College IT Staff. For students who do not have access to a personal computer, there are computers available for use on campus. These computers are located in the computer lab (873.11) and the student lounge (869.4) on the 8th floor and the 9th floor Media Center (973.65). There are cameras on the Media Center computers that can be utilized for proctored test-taking purposes.

 

System Requirements

NOTE:

1.       The College IT Staff will support personal devices regarding connecting and using school resources but will not do repairs to personal devices.

2.       The College uses several web-based applications, some of which are not compatible with certain browsers. It is recommended that students have a combination of either Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari (for Apple computer users) or Mozilla Firefox.

3.       Ensure that JavaScript and cookies are enabled on your browser

Neither Chromebooks nor iPads are not supported devices at the College

GSC Email

Every student will have a GSC Email account. Students are expected to check their email everyday as this is the primary method of communication for staff and faculty. If you have a cell phone or tablet and would like email delivered to the device automatically, the Microsoft Outlook app is available for download on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Please refer to the College’s policy on Acceptable Use regarding appropriate use of the College’s IT and electronic communications infrastructure. 

 

Microsoft Office 365

While enrolled at GSC, students will have access to Microsoft Office 365, a cloud-based office suite, as well as a downloadable copy of Microsoft Office 365 from https:\\portal.office.com.

The Office365 account also includes OneDrive storage for school documents.
